Happy Valentine's Day

I don't like Valentine's Day. I think it's a stupid holiday. Forced lovey-dovey romantic crap with pink and red hearts and the obligatory roses and chocolates and all those ads for ugly heart shaped pendants and ads urging the guy to propose... ugh. I once told SP that if he ever proposed on V-Day, I'd say no just because he did it on V-Day. I also told him when we first started dating that since I dislike V-Day, to not get me a card or flowers or a present or anything.

It's not that I am not romantic, I just don't like the holiday. SP and I say "I love you" to each other at least twice a day (always when he leaves for work and when we are snuggled up about to fall asleep at night). Almost every Sunday we make a nice meal and sit down with a glass of wine and light some candles and have a lovely, romantic, candlelit meal. We don't need a holiday to 'prompt' us to do nice things for each other. V-Day is year round for me -- SP brings me treats all throughout the year.

On Saturday he brought me these treats:Giant Eagle Market District posted these on Facebook on February 10 and we decided that they looked like a delicious treat. Chocolate-Covered Mascarpone Strawberries. Strawberries filled with rich and velvety mascarpone filling and dipped in unbelievably creamy milk chocolate (description courtesy the Market District site!). So yesterday when he did the weekly grocery shopping, SP bought 4 of these beauties. They're huge! And tasty. The mascarpone filling was so creamy and yummy! Maybe a wee bit expensive - ? Guess that depends on your point of view. About $2/each, which doesn't seem too bad to me - I've seen chocolate covered strawberries (no mascarpone) at other places for $2-$4. Maybe not quite as decadent as one might expect. But overall a lovely and worth the slight splurge once a year dessert treat.

  1. OMG. That's so funny. We just bought two of those like two hours ago at the Market District at South Hills Village. I had the same thought -- a bit pricey, but fun. I gave them to my mother and sister. I don't figure you can go wrong with mascarpone!
