CSA #31

Only one more week and then this year's CSA is over!

This week:
~ 3lb Fuji apples, Dawson’s Orchards
~ 1# crimini mushrooms, Wild Purveyors
~ carrot bunch, Nu Way Farm, CF
~ 1lb sweet potatoes, Weeping Willow Farm, CF
~ 1/3# Romaine lettuce, Nu Way Farm, CF
~ red kuri squash, Clarion River Organics, OG
~ 2# Russet potatoes, Weeping Willow Farm, CF
~ brussel sprouts OR aromatic blend, Crighton’s Farm

I only took photos of the carrots, sweet potato, and brussel sprouts.

This is the first time we've received brussel sprouts still on their thick, tough looking stem. Brussel sprouts are growing on me - these fresh ones roasted with some lemon or balsamic or maple syrup are a far cry from the ones I ate as a kid. Growing up I remember when mom would plop down a bowl full of stinky, steaming, plucked fresh from the freezer bag brussel sprouts. At the time, mom and dad always made us eat a certain amount and we'd always protest and gag and suffer. Years later we found out that mom and dad didn't really like the brussel sprouts either - mom was just looking for vegetable variety.
