Happy Thanksgiving

Gobble Gobble!
Happy Thanksgiving! Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday!

There are many things for which I am thankful on this day of giving thanks and really, they are obvious and don't need to be stated (family, friends, health) but also I am thankful that my family values tradition so much and all the small things that make things 'extra special.' That turkey in the photo above? This is his 23rd Thanksgiving. Every year I pull him out and put him together and every year, my family lovingly mocks my turkey and notes his wear & tear and wonders how much longer he can last. But trust me, they would be sad if Mr. Turkey didn't grace the Thanksgiving festivities. Much like Frosty at grandma's house and my great-grandma's light up Santa that my brother has - Thanksgiving wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the Hallmark turkey and the reminiscing / mocking it inspires.

Even SP has happily embraced the turkey. He rolls his eyes when it comes out of hiding, but also exclaims that Mr. Turkey still looks pretty good and he also carefully moves it out of harm's way when we cook.

That's what I love about this time of year - the small things that make us exclaim as we re-discover them (the turkey! the angel chimes! great grandma's bell ornaments!) and the things that make us reminisce with joy and nostalgia (grandpa's train set! grandma's turkey salt & pepper shakers!) even as we create new memories and traditions.

Sometimes, it's the small things that make everything extra special. Like Mr. Turkey.
