Christmas Cookie Time!

One of my favorite things about the holiday season is baking. Specifically, baking cookies. Lots of cookies. I usually start thinking about the final cookie list in October, I think I have it figured out by early November, I start making the master shopping list, and then throughout November I start remembering cookies from Christmases past and discovering new cookie recipes. My list grows out of control, I can't decide which ones should make the final cut, SP starts rolling his eyes and adds a few ideas of his own, family members start chiming in and expressing outrage if it looks like their favorite cookie might not make the cut, they make derogatory remarks about other cookies (it's hilarious to see my mom's sneer when dad starts campaigning for his candy cane cookies), and then after much cookie negotiation, the final list is made, the ingredient list compiled, the shopping done, the cookies baked, and waaaay too many eaten.

And of course, after all is said and done, as we crash back on the couch and rub our full bellies while gazing at the ridiculously huge cookie plate, my brother asks where the ant cookies are. Sigh. He's never going to let it go. The year when I was maybe 14 years old and I made snowmen cookies by forming 3 different sizes of dough balls and placing them next to each other to form snowmen. There is some truth to the ant like appearance of the final cookies, but...

Usually we make 12-14 kinds of cookies. At last count, I had 28 possible cookies on the master list. I need to stop looking at Christmas Cookie recipes. Meanwhile, we've already started stockpiling flour, sugar, and butter. Here's a look back at the last 2 years.
