Falling Into Fall

The older I get, the faster time seems to fly! The summer seems to have zipped by and before I knew it, it was time for Labor Day, back to school, my mom's birthday...

And then I blinked and it was October. Yikes!

I'm not sure why time seems to be zipping along. Perhaps it's because our weekends have been so gosh darn busy, and there is no letting up in the next few months. Every weekend in September was spent working on the basement project, more specifically, picking out carpet and new furniture. I still haven't decided on the furniture, we keep changing our minds and this weekend we are going to a few more stores to look, but basically, we've gone to 3+ furniture stores every weekend in addition to our usual shopping/chores!

We made one decision: we purchased a daybed to replace my old mattress that was a guest bed in the basement. That will be delivered later this month. The daybed & underneath pop up bed meant trips to stores in search of mattress pads, sheets, blankets, daybed bedding, etc. Every time we do one thing, it sets off an avalanche of additional 'chores' and spending!

The last week of September/first week of fall was especially zippy since SP went on a business trip to CA. A whole week by myself! I lived by myself for many years, but in an apartment, not a house. Without my hubby around to protect me, as soon as it got dark, I imagined monsters lurking in the corners, every creak was something coming to attack me, I checked the doors multiple times before bed every night (some, like SP, might say I checked obsessively and unhealthily). But I survived! I had dinner a couple times with friends that week, but when I ate alone, I dined on these delicious foods SP and I made before he left town:
The best ever macaroni and cheese.

The best ever breaded, lemony, herby chicken

Greens with heirloom tomatoes and local goat cheese from the CSA
I also roasted asparagus during the week.

Last but definitely not least, my dessert for the week. The delicious Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies that we first tried last year.
In addition to cooler weather comfort foods like the macaroni & cheese and chicken, the autumn flavors of pumpkin & cinnamon, I celebrated falling into fall by getting out the Halloween decorations. It is perhaps a bit early, but every year I feel like I never have them out long enough to really enjoy them, so this year I got them out on the first day of fall!
