Back to Bakn

Last week we met up with our friend T for dinner. He had not yet tried Bakn in Carnegie, so we decided to go there. I was really excited about ordering the egg sandwich I had last time we were there, but then I decided I should try something else.
To start, SP & I shared Tomato Basil Soup. It was a bit chunkier, which SP really likes, and was deliciously tomato-y.
It's the time of year when we eats lots of cookies and other desserts and eat less than healthy dinners and snacks at holiday gatherings, so we've been making an effort to eat more vegetables. We shared a Mixed Greens Salad (Romaine, Field greens, Cucumber, Oven Roasted Tomato, Croutons, Crispy Pork Belly, Honey Cider Vinaigrette), This salad was really good, especially those roasted tomatoes, which had lots of herbs on them, and crisp, fresh greens. It was big, too, so we both got plenty of veggie.
I decided to try Slow Braised Short Ribs (Creamy Parmesan Polenta, Applewood Smoked Bakn, Sunnyside Egg). There was maybe a bit too much green onion on top for my personal taste, but the ribs, polenta, bacon, and egg flavors all mixed together were excellent. I ate the entire dish, using my spoon to scoop up as much as possible.
SP decided to try Pan Seared Shrimp & Grits (Creamy Cheddar Grits, Applewood Smoked Bakn, Scallion, Tomato, Sunnyside Egg). Slightly blurry photo, sorry. The shrimp were tasty and while I liked the tastes I had, I preferred my dish, probably because I like a little gravy/sauce with dishes like this. SP liked the dish a lot and ate all of it.
Our friend T opted for Bakn Burger (1/2 Pounder, Pepper Bakn, Applewood Smoked Bakn, Jarlesberg, Lemon Dressed Arugula, Ripe Tomato, Toasted Bun). I didn't try a bite. T said it was good. I didn't ask him to rate it on a burger scale, so I'm not sure what good really means, but he ate it all.

Our second trip to Bakn was as tasty as our first. I like how casual and laid back it is and how friendly our servers have been. Also our servers have been knowledgeable about menu items. And they have yummy fresh brewed iced tea, always a plus. I'd still like to try one of the pancake/waffle/French toast dishes, but also have that delicious breakfast sandwich again, so I'm sure we'll be back.
