Old Monterey Cafe

When I lived in Monterey, if I was going to go out for breakfast, it was almost always to this place: Old Monterey Cafe. I loved their big breakfasts. All sorts of scrambles, omelets, pancakes. Yum. Of course having breakfast/brunch here was on my "must do" list during our vacation. It wasn't until the last full day of vacation that we made it there for breakfast and fueled up for the 17 Mile Drive.

There almost always is a bit of a wait. It's not a huge place, and the tables aren't too close but there also isn't a lot of extra space. We waited for about 10-15 minutes before being seated and ordering tea.
I cannot remember what omelet SP ordered and sadly, I cannot find an online menu. He chose grits for his side. He said everything was good. The omelets come with toast/biscuit, too, and he had a biscuit while I chose white toast.
I chose the Portland Omelet (mushrooms, cheddar, tomatoes) and a side of hash browns. I love these hash browns - thinly grated potatoes with lots of browned bits! I ate almost everything and SP helped me with the remaining potatoes.

We both liked our meals. It's not super special, just breakfast done well, and the portions are large but not super large (like at The Cracked Egg in Las Vegas). It's very casual, and crowded, and there's not much interaction with your server but service is very efficient and quick but not rushed. Definitely worth checking out for breakfast.
