Side Street Cafe (Bar Harbor)

Our first night in Bar Harbor, ME, we decided to walk around town and grab some dinner. We'd been in the car almost all day and had not eaten much food so we were pretty darn hungry. We decided to try Side Street Cafe. We were seated right away, inside (there's an outdoor patio, too), and ordered drinks:
An Atlantic Brewing beer for SP. I don't remember what I ordered but I am sure it wasn't alcoholic because I was starting to come down with a horrible cold so I was taking medicine. I think it was Blueberry Lemonade. It was really good. I think it had mint in it, too.
SP started with soup, I think it was the Lobster Stew.
He said it was delicious. Meanwhile, I was trying to up my vegetable intake for the day with the Caprese Salad (fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, mixed greens, olive oil, basil, sea salt, cracked pepper:
It was really good and just what I wanted/needed. SP helped me with it because it was pretty big.
SP had Maine Crab Cakes (the appetizer portion) for the rest of his meal. We both thought they were yummy crab cakes.
I opted for comfort food: Macaroni & Cheese. I ordered a half portion and even with SP's help, we couldn't finish it because it was huge. I can't even imagine how large a full portion must be. I got mine with bacon and roasted red pepper. You can choose one of their mac & cheese creations or create your own and there are a lot of choices: spinach, black bean salsa, mushrooms, roasted red pepper, ham, bacon, onions, tomatoes, olives, green pepper, jalapeno, artichokes, pulled pork, lobster, shrimp, hamburger, Philly steak, chicken, avocado, corned beef, hot dogs, scallops.

Our server told us that there once was a guy who came in after hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, ordered a full size mac & cheese with every possible option. And ate the entire thing. I'd love to see that pile of mac & cheese & options.

I would totally get this again. It was really, really good mac & cheese. Also - they have gluten free pasta.

They also have burgers, wraps, sandwiches, build your own sandwiches, some Tex Mex options, and after 5 pm, several entrees available.

We really liked Side Street Cafe. It's very casual, sort of eclectic inside, our server was really nice, the food was tasty. We'd definitely go back.
