Thursday Thoughts

It's a miserable day outside. A good day to stay inside and stay warm with lots of hot tea.

One week ago, we were celebrating my birthday in Asheville, NC. Since then it's been a lot of laundry, shopping, errands, going through mail, paying bills - all that fun post-vacation stuff plus we're still trying to get the deck sorted out. We have made some progress. The roof shingles that were damaged have been replaced. We're trying to find a deck repair person.

I think I might have gotten sick on vacation, or right after vacation. I felt fine until Sunday night when my left ear/throat area started hurting. It hasn't gotten worse, but it hasn't improved, and I have a lot of sinus pain/headaches/nose stuffiness but no cough or fever. I'm sleeping through the night without tossing & turning, which is unusual, so unusual that we cannot remember the last time I slept through the night. I'm not sure what is going on and I'm annoyed because SP doesn't really have time to take me to a doctor appointment. He's on call this week, he had to take a lot of time off recently because of the tree and people coming to survey the damage/estimate repairs so I feel massive amounts of guilt and work fear if I need him to take off for a couple more hours. My parents are out of town until next Tuesday and everyone we know works and/or has kids and/or drives an SUV, which I cannot get in/out of, so we don't have anyone to ask for help. And of course we have plans/things we need to do on Saturday and Sunday, and then it's Thanksgiving and then a weekend of plans. Plus, my annual doctor visit is in early December so it really irks me that I might need to go before then.

Maybe it'll magically get better?

Speaking of Thanksgiving, we're trying to get ready for it. We offered to host the families here so we'll be spending Sunday cleaning the house. The turkey arrived yesterday. MIL ordered one from Soergel Orchards, like last year, and it's resting comfortably on a cookie sheet in the refrigerator. I think this year, it's a 19.5 lb bird.

What We're Eating:

  • Chicken Noodle Soup
  • Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, Sausage, Fruit Salad
  • Dessert: MIL brought some treats from Soergel Orchards (gobs, nut horns, nut tassies, lady lox) plus we had some leftover car snacks (Milano cookies, Pocky)

What We're Watching:

  • A bunch of recorded shows from last week! I had 2 weeks of Thursday night TV to watch and I am finally caught up & ready for tonight's Shonda shows.
  • Since we have DishTV, we currently do not have HBO because of one of those "spats" between HBO people and DishTV people. This means we do not have the season finale of The Deuce to watch, or recent Bill Maher/John Oliver shows. We're hoping this is resolved by the new year because Season 3 of True Detective starts in January and the final episodes of Game of Thrones start in April.
  • We've been enjoying The Rookie, mostly because of Nathan Fillion.

What I'm Reading:

  • I took all my magazines on vacation, thinking I'd have time to read them because this was more of a casual vacation, not a "be a tourist and see everything" vacation. Of course I did not have any time to read them! So I'm trying to now, before new issues arrive.
  • The new Michael Connelly Harry Bosch novel is out! Dark Sacred Night. I've been reading a bit each day, which drives me crazy because I prefer to take a huge chunk of time and read a huge chunk of a book, finishing in 1-2 days. It's day 4 and I'm only halfway through the book. So far, I'm really enjoying it.
